In March 2020, the General Bureau of Statistics (ABS) published the publication: Statistical Yearbook 2018/2019. The Social-Cultural Statistics section, which is part of the Social Statistics Division, is responsible for the data collection, data processing and compilation of said publication.
The aim of the section is to annually present core data that provide an overview of the Demographic, Social, Economic, Environmental and Cultural situation of Suriname.
Inputs for compiling the publication mainly come from (external) secondary data sources. These data sources are contacted annually by telephone and or in writing.
The section has tried to update the presented data as much as possible up to and including 2019. The publication contains data on the following subjects: “General, Area, Climate & Environment, Population, Economy, Transport and Traffic, Economy, Agriculture and Livestock, Prices and Wages, Employment and Related Statistics, Education, Social Security,
Public Health, Public Finance and Crime ”.
A special chapter is devoted to each topic, incorporating basic descriptions and presenting data on various indicators.
